19.7 The Law Of God Is More Desirable Than Gold

Table of Contents

The Text

Psalms 19:10-11 (CSB)
They are more desirable than gold —
than an abundance of pure gold;
and sweeter than honey
dripping from a honeycomb.
In addition, your servant is warned by them,
and in keeping them there is an abundant reward.

The Chapter

Neither are the aforementioned uses of the law contrary to the grace of the Gospel, but do sweetly comply with it, the Spirit of Christ subduing and enabling the will of man to do that freely and cheerfully which the will of God, revealed in the law, requireth to be done.

The Confession

Neither are the aforementioned uses of the law contrary to the grace of the Gospel, but do sweetly comply with it

Galatians 3:21 (CSB) Is the law therefore contrary to God’s promises? Absolutely not! For if the law had been granted with the ability to give life, then righteousness would certainly be on the basis of the law.

Here's the great part of the law of God: we never, ever have to break his law in order to live in his grace and give grace to others. Does that make sense?

We live in the spirit of the age where so many people struggle with identity. They have taken great measures to place their identity into something not of God and against his law. But furthermore, they want the Christian endorse it as a way, to what, sign off on it?

But who am I, a mere broken beggar, to sign off on your sin. Why do I need to twist the law of God in order to sear your conscience. I am just a herald and a disciple. I am just a born again son of God who does not have any such authority to do so. In other words, "Sure, I can affirm your sin", and then what? God's law is still holy and pure and still the same. My affirmation of your sin does not change the law of God. It does not change the fact that you and I are still sinners who are in desperate need of a Savior to love us, die for us, and raise us from the dead.

the Spirit of Christ subduing and enabling the will of man to do that freely and cheerfully which the will of God, revealed in the law, requireth to be done

Ezekiel 36:27 (CSB) I will place my Spirit within you and cause you to follow my statutes and carefully observe my ordinances.

You and I need to run to the Christ! We need to possess the Triune God. God has aptly promises, turn to me and I will give you my Son. No delay. No hesitation. No pondering. Instant giving of his only begotten Son to those sinners who need to be saved.

1 John 1:9 (CSB) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

My love, this is the only way we can live. Every since the dawn of man, we have been working tirelessly to find our own way to life. And what has our efforts produced? Backs broken. Souls crushed. Hearts torn into two. We are left lifeless, tired, lonely, and desperate.

Matthew 11:28-30 (CSB) “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take up my yoke and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

We can only find real and true rest in Christ alone. There is no other name by which we are saved.
